Susan Schwaegler first began skating at The River's Edge (then the Quad City Sports Center) in Davenport, Iowa in 1995 at the age of 37. Since that time, she has passed the Adult Gold Moves in the Field test, the Adult Silver free skating test, the Preliminary and Adult Bronze Figures tests, the Adult 50+ Silver Dance test, and the Masters Silver Free Dance test. She has competed at the Adult Midwestern Sectional Championships and the U.S. Adult National Championships in free skating, interpretive, and solo and partnered ice dance events.
Susan teaches private lessons and Learn to Skate USA classes at The River's Edge, specializing in adults and beginning ice dance. She is a registered coach with U.S. Figure Skating and a member of the Professional Skaters Association, earning her Registered Ice Dance Instructor rating in 2014. In 2019, she became a Certified GravityGlide® Coach. She has served for many years on the board of the Figure Skating Club of the Quad Cities and served on the USFS Adult Committee 2018-2023. She has a bachelor's degree in Music Education from Northwestern University and a Master of Pastoral Studies from St. Ambrose University. She is retired from Augustana College, Rock Island, IL, where she taught clarinet for 24 years. Susan trains at the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, IL, with coaches Alina Ponomarova, Kseniya Ponomaryova, and Collin Brubaker, and partnering coach Michael Schlautman. With former partner David Bakke, she was the 2016 Adult Bronze Ice Dance champion. Susan's current private lesson rate is $40/hour, and her music cutting rate is $15/program. [email protected] |
